Travelling during Corona involves lots of information checks about the requirements every country has. It includes PCR tests or quarantine on arrival so one must be extra conscious during travels. Here, I will try to solve this one for you and guide you to the cool places I found in Zurich.
If I had to describe Zurich in April 2021 with three words, they will be peaceful, lively and awakening!
Until the rest of Europe still hibernates, Zurich is still high-spirited.
There is a real buzz about this city
Lots of young people could be spotted on benches around the river enjoying the end of the workweek extremely unpretentious. If you are like me, you would think it’s only for Friday and you would be wrong. People were out and about for my whole stay. Especially on Sunday, the parks were filled with tribes playing lots of diverse games. Even there was a big group playing beach volleyball in the park, despite the cold 10 degrees weather.
If you are planning to go there, I really advise on layering. Coming from Bulgaria where the winter is for real and lasts until May, the maximum of 12 degrees in Switzerland felt a bit chilly to me. Fun fact: I was one of the few people wearing a real winter coat there!
With the boom of the Coronavirus in the whole of Europe, makes perfect sense that all the restaurants in Zurich were closed for dining in. Only takeaways and eating in your hotel restaurant were allowed. Despite this fact, the city centre was filled with street musicians and youngsters socializing over a meal outside. Sorry guys, no brunch recommendations this time but stay with me, I promise I have a few recommendations for a fantastic holiday in Zurich!
I am a big sucker for Ferris wheels.
Everywhere I go, it’s the first stop on my checklist. I find beauty in seeing the whole city from a bird’s eye view. With the lack of foreign tourists, I assume it was us and all the kids. It was lots of fun.
A stunning panoramic view can be seen from Lindenhof. You just need to climb the hill for the best city views. On the top of the hill is a park with a public square and the remaining of the Roman medieval city wall. This place is very trendy among local young people for hangout.
Coffee. Coffee. Award coffee.
For the best coffee in town head to MAME. Mame from Japanese means ‘beans’. The link with the Japanese culture clearly states that at MAME they take their mission seriously. They have won so many awards including World Brewers Cup Champion 2018. An interesting fact is that the creators of MAME met during coffee competition and quit their corporate jobs to follow their passion for great coffee.
I need to pay special attention to the breathtaking architecture of the city. If you are into period buildings or you are more of modern designs, you have the best from both worlds. Whatever floats your boat!
For the bohemians, I have one vibrant suggestion. If the combination of fashion & street food sounds awesome to you, the place is Geroldstrasse.
