..and use rejection as a teacher
Rejection takes many forms and shapes.
For instance, it might be a rejection from the family, a lover or getting rejected for the dream project.
We face rejection from every life’s corner. Even if we get rejected 239768 times, it never feels good.
I have personally experienced rejection countless times in my life.
Before becoming a model I used to live in a very safe bubble and I didn’t take many risks.
Working in a very competitive field made me realize early on that rejection is part of the journey. There is no Skip button. Going to castings and auditions daily, meeting multiple high-brand clients a day I have heard “NO” more times than I can count.
From all the “No” I have heard during my modelling career and not only, but I also developed my thick-skin. It’s by far, one of the most character-building traits. The key here is to Untie your self-worth with a job. One person’s opinion doesn’t define who you are!
Here are a few action strategies to overcome any rejection. To stay confident and motivated to get past this hurdle.
- Allow yourself to feel. You have been rejected. No matter what kind of rejection, it sucks.
Embrace your emotions and let yourself feel. Sadness, anger, disappointment. You are human. Get real with the situation but don’t let it consume you or your worth. Your worth should not pay the price of daily rejection! - Why is this happening to me?Maybe this job doesn’t match your skillset or there was someone with better preparation than you. Answer the question: Can I improve something? Take it as a learning process and move forward.
- Take a time gap or different strategy
If the rejection is bigger and more painful. Take time to heal before going back into action. Reconsider your approach towards your job hunting.
In other words, by simply reconstructing your resume you can get better results. - Call for actionIf you have done all the steps above, you are good to go.
Taking responsibility and getting into action are the last pieces of the puzzle.
Going in for the interview or the job will generally shift things up.However, unpleasant the situation, it’s not the end of the world. And maybe it wasn’t a good fit for you in the first place. If you see the rejection as a guiding path to where you truly belong, it will be much easier to bounce back stronger than before.I hope you find it helpful.Share with me how you overcome rejection in your life?
