The top 5 podcasts you need to hear

What was the carrier you wanted to have when you were a kid? Do you remember? In a recent study, the top 3 jobs kids aspire to be are a dancer, an actor and a musician.

In the 90s the boys around me were torn between a policeman or a firefighter.  In 2020 those two professions are still on the list in the study, but almost at the end of it.

Many people ask me if my childhood dream was becoming a model. The answer is no.  A less known fact is that my childhood dream was being a radio host. I used to record my voice on my mom’s Modern Talking cassette tapes.

Times are changing. And if before everyone I know used to watch Tv and listen to a radio. Now, we live in the era of Netflix and podcasts.

Let’s first answer to What, When and Why?

What is a podcast? A podcast is an audio blog, the closest to a radio show we could get. Anyone can make one and record about things they are obsessed over. From politics to health and nutrition.

When should you listen to a podcast? Any time. The great benefit of the podcasts is that they are easily accessible and FREE.
I listen to podcasts daily. At the gym, or while the make up artist is making me pretty, or when I am off to work or when I am cleaning. Any time I have some free time and my earbuds, I would listen to a podcast which can broaden my perspective.

2019 Podcast Statistics

In my last week post, I told you about the 10 books, that shaped me. (READ HERE)

We are what we read, what we watch and what we listen to, so I would like to bring your attention to it. Be mindful with the information you consume.

I start listening to the podcasts when I was living in Hong Kong. I didn’t have many friends and podcasts gave me a feeling of constant company. Why I think they are so successful is because they are the combination of intimacy, accessibility and portability.

Why you should listen to podcasts? What are the benefits of them?
– powerful ways to stay educated and informed
– learn and view life from the top experts
– discover new information
– get inspired
– change your perspective
– personal and professional growth
– optimizing your time

THE SEA OF PODCASTS
Till now, there are over 1 million podcasts out there. And maybe when you are reading this, someone somewhere is recording their podcast episode.

I bet you connect “podcasts” to the Joe Rogan Experience. Which is a great one, but there are few others worth checking out.

Like everything in life, finding your favourite podcast is very individual. I listen to many but I check those weekly.

The Tim Ferris show

Tim ferris show

Tim Ferris is the king of self-optimization. A man who constantly experimenting and tests new things on himself. The Oprah of audio.
Less known facts about him are that he is: a former MTV breakdancer in Taiwan, one-time national Chinese kickboxing champion, the first American holding the Guinness world record in tango, University guest lecturer, angel investor, writer, entrepreneur. Author of five #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers.
His podcast is filled with the outcomes from his experiments, mind tricks, life lessons and the habits you need to develop for ultimate success. Doing what he preaches, dedicated his life to bringing value to others. Learned Japanese, and created a method to Learn Any language for 3 months.

The James Altucher Show
The James Altucher show
James Altucher is an American entrepreneur, who has founded and co-founded over 20 companies. Bachelor of computer science and did the websites of many bands and companies (Before The WordPress existed). What I like about him is his different approach to life. His vulnerability to talk about the loss, the pain and how to achieve successful goals, without losing your passion. Everything he talks about is extremely practical and authentic,  he shares how he made millions, lost them and was close to suicide. At one point in his life, he gave up all of his belonging and start living in Airbnb.

He is the author of 20 books. His book “Choose yourself” is a national best-seller. During the quarantine, he donates money to struggling small business.

Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris

Dan Harris was a correspondent for ABC News and co-anchor for Good Morning America. His story is very unusual. While presenting the news he experiences a panic attack on national TV. (You can find the video on Youtube) The pivot moment makes him rethink all of his life. He goes on a journey within and tames the voice inside of his head. From a sceptical and extremely overproductive person to slow living advocate and creator of a Meditation app. One of the first questions he asks his guest is about their relationship with Meditation and how they find balance in their everyday life. On Ten 10% Happier he brings the science behind happiness, calm, compassion, bias, creativity and relationships.

The Arm Chair Expert with Dax Shepard
The Arm Chair expert with Dax shepard
Dax Shepard
might be familiar to you with the reality series Punk’d or some of the many movies he did. I won’t go in many details about his work because my blog is not Wikipedia. Three words come to my mind about this podcast authenticity, realness and vulnerability.  Dax has been sober for more than a decade. He is honest and empathic. In his podcast, he is not afraid to show the messiness of being a human. The podcast gives me a breath of fresh air of the striving for “perfection” world.  To be vulnerable and share your struggles takes courage.

Tom Bilyeu

Last but not least, on my list is Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu. The co-founder of the billion-dollar brand of our favourite Quest Nutrition. Made a huge empire out of scratch and gain huge popularity as a motivational speaker. Interviewing the top experts in business, nutrition, health and wellness, he talks a lot about becoming your best version and building healthy daily habits. He talks a lot about the struggle, the dream and the willpower behind everything he set his mind to.
