Hong Kong – all the beauty revealed
I have so much love in my heart for Hong Kong.
I lived and worked there as a model for 4 years and the city plays a critical role in making me the person I am today. The energy of Hong Kong is hard to put into words. You need to feel it yourself.
THE BEGINNING OF MY JOURNEY IN HONG KONG
Everything started for me in mid-November 2016. I was currently on a modelling contract in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and I had my flight tickets to Bulgaria. I had a call from my mother agency, that the best agency in Hong Kong, was proposing a 3-month contract. I didn’t hesitate at all and I said yes. By now 2020, I have lived in almost all Asian countries and by far, Hong Kong holds the #1 place for me. Many times, I have been asked, why Hong Kong is so special for me.
I made a list of all the things I love about living in Hong Kong.
MANY WAYS OF TRANSPORTÂ
It’s EASY TO get around. From the moment you land at the airport, you can take a fast speed express train and you are in the city centre for 28 minutes. Also, you have free internet in the train + charger stations on the back of the seats. How cool is that!
Transport in Hong Kong is super efficient and functional.
As someone, who comes from a capital city, it’s one of my main requirements.
You have a variety of different options.
You can travel by MTR, buses, minibuses, trams, taxi and even boats.
My favourite kinds of transportations, when I wasn’t rushing to a casting, are definitely – the trams and the boats.
The trams are so iconic symbol of Hong Kong. I recommend, sitting on the second floor, but beware of the ceiling, it’s not made for 5’11 giants.
There is something so calming, in taking a boat in the evening and watching the breathtaking skyline. The boat takes 7 minutes from one side of the island to the other side. ( I know, that because many times, I would put my headphones on and I would listen to a guided meditation and I would be not able to finish it.
HIKING AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIESÂ
Sometimes, living in a business hub can be overwhelming. A friend of mine, said to me once “How are you handling this place, it feels like a robot city”, and I agree, there is a truth in this, but it’s ONLY if you haven’t discovered the natural beauty of Hong Kong.
There are plenty of hiking trails, waterfalls, running tracks and beaches.
The closest hiking track is walking distance from the centre.
Well, yeah it takes 45 minutes by walk, by its a great way to explore the city on foot, stay in shape and feel connected to nature. There is a shopping mall, a coffee shop with an amazing view from the top. It a must!
But to make it personal, I will share with you, my ULTIMATE favourite hiking trail. I usually, always do it by myself, preferably very early mornings with my headphones on and listening to a podcast. It’s my top rituals to kickstart the day.
Twin Peaks and Violet Hill and it’s the real stair master.
( more than 1000 stairs at one point). The hike is hard work but the rewards are incredible views of Hong Kong wilderness. Sometimes, it’s not even 11 am and I am on already 13 000 steps, I had my quiet time, and the best part is that you have the option to finish the hike at Repulse bay beach. Another option for the weekends is renting a bike and riding around. I have done it several times, on HK island (around Disneyland) or at any other outlying islands. It’s so much fun!
BEACHESÂ
What attracted me to Hong Kong is a tropical climate. Even during the winter, is not as cold, as we have experienced in Europe. (some winters -15 and more) Whether you fancy hiking trails or tanning at the beach, HK has everything you need. The beach is 20 minutes away by minibus or a bus.
FOODÂ
I know, what you are already thinking. Finally. Food.
Welcome to paradise. There are tons of great restaurants.
You can enjoy every cuisine known to mankind.
From Japanese for lunch to Mexican for dinner.
I have a feeling, that every week, there is a new place opened, somewhere on the island.
I follow all the social platforms and I try to stay up to date with the trendiest new places.
I was happily pleased to hear, that some friends screenshot and save my IG stories and make their list of cool restaurants to try. Hopefully, you are already following me đ
